Major Offshore Oil & Gas Company

Problem

Following a recent overhaul involving lube oil and filter replacement, as well as a comprehensive oil cooler plate renewal, a customer observed elevated temperature, heightened differential pressure, and increased bearing vibration in one of their turbines. Despite the absence of critical varnish warnings in the lube oil analysis, the noted alterations raised significant concerns. Notably, with an MPC value of 20, the lube oil filters exhibited substantial contamination.

Solution

With the help of Petrotec, Fluitec’s DECON™ was added and its ESP VITA III™ unit was attached to the system. These should help remove any deposits from the system and extend the life of the oil.

Results

Following the introduction of DECON, the MPC levels exhibited a noteworthy reduction from 60.8 to 5.3 within a two-week period. Integration of the ESP VITA III unit led to a subsequent and sustained decline in MPC levels, consistently maintaining below 5. Concurrently, the particle count witnessed a decrease, while the Acid number remained stable within acceptable parameters. Notably, antioxidant levels remained consistently within optimal ranges.
